Who is responsible for paying carer's taxes?

As Carers provide care services as self-employed individuals, it is their own responsibility to submit their tax returns under the self-assessment system. Customers of self-employed carers are not required to operate PAYE or submit any payments or statements to HMRC with respect to the care they have purchased, although this is subject to HMRC’s review.  We recommend that all carers seek their own independent legal and advice on their employment status and arrangements with their customers.
